Once I got shocked by seeing the Vietnam Beach Pollution, I start researching and contacting organizations and individuals involved in finding solutions to the serious problem of plastic pollution in the oceans for a long time. In my search, I came across a startup that produces large plastic sheets using plastic bags taken from landfills.

Unfortunately, due to floods and the pandemic, the company’s activities were going very slowly, and many projects that could be underway were interrupted by numerous obstacles.

However, I kept in touch with the company and made myself available to help in any way I could. My interest was to better understand how things were done and to see in detail how the extracted material was handled, as well as all other stages of the process.

Gradually, with the end of the lockdown and other opportunities that arose, the company started to develop again, albeit slowly. It was then that I was invited to collaborate on the creation of two collection points: one in HoiAn, near the beach, and another on the protected island of Cham Island.

Thus, I began my journey in the waste management and recycling industry, wastewater management, and plastic recycling. I feel deeply grateful to be able to contribute to these initiatives that aim to protect the environment and ensure a more sustainable future for all.

MRF and Collection Points

MRF stands for Material Recovery Facility, which is a type of industrial facility where recyclable material is processed and separated into different types of materials, such as plastics, glass, metals, and paper.

These facilities are designed to receive large quantities of solid waste, usually from selective garbage collection, and efficiently separate them using advanced separation, sorting, and material compression technologies.

The goal of the MRF is to maximize the number of recoverable materials, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, and increase the efficiency and profitability of recycling processes.

The material separated in the MRF is sold to recycling industries, which turn these materials into new products, reducing the demand for virgin raw materials and contributing to the preservation of the environment.

In the case of Precious Plastic, the “Collection Point” is a specific type of Material Recovery Facility (MRF) that focuses exclusively on the collection and sorting of plastic waste. This is an important initiative to deal with the growing problem of plastic pollution worldwide, as it allows materials to be collected, separated, and recycled efficiently and economically.

Precious Plastic’s Collection Points are usually operated by local individuals or organizations and can be found in many locations around the world. They are a vital part of the plastic recycling chain, helping to reduce the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills, rivers, and oceans.
