Gambling is for women too
Gambling has a long history in China and Vietnam. In fact, some forms of gambling have been present in these countries for thousands of years.
In China, gambling was particularly popular during the Qing dynasty (1644-1912), when it was an important part of social and cultural life. Games like Mahjong, which originated in China, have become popular all over the world.
Similarly, in Vietnam, gambling has been a part of the culture for centuries. The country has a long tradition of betting on animal fights and other forms of gambling, such as playing cards and dice games.
However, it’s worth noting that gambling is not legal in all parts of China and Vietnam, and the governments of both countries have taken steps to crack down on illegal gambling operations in recent years.
Gambling is technically illegal in Vietnam, but there are some exceptions. The Vietnamese government allows for certain forms of gambling, such as lottery and sports betting, but these are tightly regulated.
The Casinos are not legally allowed to operate in the country except for one location, the Corona Resort and Casino on Phu Quoc Island, which is specifically designated for foreign visitors. Vietnamese citizens are not allowed to gamble at this casino and are generally discouraged from gambling in any form due to concerns about addiction and financial ruin. The government has also been cracking down on illegal gambling operations in recent years.
Women also participate in gambling in China and Vietnam. While gambling was traditionally seen as a male activity, the gender gap has been narrowing in recent years, and more and more women are now involved in various forms of gambling, including lotteries, card games, and betting on sports. In fact, in some regions, women are known to be particularly skilled and strategic gamblers. It is important to note that gambling can become a serious addiction and can have negative consequences, regardless of gender.
During the New Year celebrations, gambling becomes a big thing, this is the biggest holiday in Vietnam, the Tet Holiday. Many people have a break from work during Tet and travel back to their hometowns to celebrate with their families. During this time, it is common for families and friends to gather and play traditional games, including gambling. Some people also go to the casinos during Tet to try their luck, and many casinos in Vietnam offer special promotions and events during this time to attract more visitors.
Because Tet is the most important holiday in Vietnamese culture, and it is believed that the way you start the new year can set the tone for the rest of the year. Therefore, many Vietnamese people engage in various traditional practices during Tet to ensure good luck and prosperity in the coming year. One of these practices is gambling, as it is believed that winning money during Tet is a sign of good fortune and prosperity in the new year.
In addition to gambling, other common Tet customs include cleaning the house to get rid of bad luck from the previous year, decorating the home with flowers and red banners for good luck, visiting family and friends to exchange New Year’s greetings and gifts, and eating traditional holiday foods. These practices are all part of the effort to welcome the new year with positivity, good fortune, and luck.
